Our journey began with two individuals who once stood as rivals, but destiny had a different plan in store for us. United by a shared purpose, we forged a bond that has touched the lives of countless boys and men.
At the core of our foundation lies our deep understanding that true growth and transformation often stem from unlikely circumstances. We believe that within every obstacle, there exists a seed of potential for profound growth and change.
Our rivalry served as a catalyst, igniting a flame that burned away competition and replaced it with collaboration. Through our shared faith and shared vision, we realized that our true power lay not in rivalry, but in brotherhood. Together, we set out to create an organization that uplifts, empowers, and guides boys and men towards fulfilling their greatest potential.
I am the Good Brother, Aaron Philip Scott. I grew up in a home with a lot of anger and a lot of hurt. My father was an alcoholic, and it caused a lot of conflict in our family. Like many young men in those circumstances, I started acting out at an early age. I was in trouble at school all the time, in and out of programs and facilities, and I started using drugs and alcohol. It wasn’t long until I got in trouble with the law. I was walking around with so much anger, but I didn’t know where to turn or how to express myself. I remember feeling like I had no place in the world and that things were never going to change.
But by God’s grace, things did begin to turn around. My dad was in recovery from alcoholism, my parents were working through their relationship problems, and I was in college making great progress. That’s when I met my shooter. I became one of the tens of thousands who are victims of gun violence in our country each year. After a 20-hour surgery and being in and out of the hospital for months, my life as I knew it was put on pause for over a year of healing and rehabilitation.
God has used every obstacle in my life for His glory! He has restored me and has blessed me in more ways than I could ask for or even imagine. He has reconciled me to His purpose—my destiny. I found my wife, and together we are building a beautiful, loving family. God led me to leadership in my church and in the community so I can be a beacon for other brothers to discover their destiny. Today, I am building a legacy for my family, my community, and the world.
I am the Good Brother, David Milton Kamara. I was born to Ruth and Charles Kamara in a war-torn region of East Africa called Uganda. By the grace of God, we obtained political asylum and landed on the East Coast of America where I grew up with my older sister and had a relatively normal childhood. Our biggest challenge was learning what it meant to be an African in America.
I was six years old when I experienced the most significant detour of my early life. I learned that I had contracted a blood-borne disease at birth, a microscopic organism that would become the greatest giant in my life. That diagnosis led me to doubt who I was, my abilities, and even God. I began to numb the pain and hurt with alcohol. My 20-year addiction left a trail of broken laws, hearts, and relationships. Yet by reconnecting to Jesus, I was no longer under the yoke of addiction and am now living disease free. I am a new creation by the blood of Christ, no longer defined by my diagnosis, faults, or labels. I am a husband, father, son, and brother.
I believe we are living in a world of brokenness. We lack Godly men willing to stand in the gap for our younger counterparts, and more importantly, for our women. This has left a tremendous void in our communities and has contributed to broken families, leaving a generation of boys and men without spiritual identity or a knowledge of biblical manhood. We can restore men to what God intends them to be through the work of The Good Brothers Foundation.
